A nineteen-year-old (male) from Jangaon was rushed to MGM Hospital, Warangal, after he met with a road traffic accident. Still, for better treatment, he was rushed to PACE Hospitals, Hitech city, Hyderabad.
The patient had a severe traumatic brain injury, and upon arriving at PACE Hospitals, he was put on multiple life-saving supports. Despite life support and best efforts, his condition deteriorated, and he was declared brain-dead due to severe cerebral injury. His friends and family were counselled about organ donation and consented to donate his organs.
His Liver and Kidney were then harvested at PACE Hospitals, Hyderabad. A 50-year-old liver failure patient and another 50-year-old kidney disease patient underwent simultaneous liver transplantation and left kidney transplantation at PACE Hospitals. Post-surgery, both the liver and kidney recipients were reported to have a very smooth recovery. The right kidney was used for a kidney transplant at NIMS - Nizam's Institute Of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
The successful transplant marks a significant milestone in the patient's journey, apart from bringing hope to those in need of organ donations.
“The noble and selfless act of his family ensures that he lives on through the lives of the people”, said Dr Phani Krishna, Liver Transplant Surgeon, at PACE Hospitals, Hyderabad.
“Thanks to Jeevandan and the concerted efforts of family members and the PACE team of coordinators and medical specialists, we could successfully execute the operation on an emergency basis, and all three recipients are doing well," said Dr Govind Verma, Transplant Hepatologist, at PACE Hospitals, Hyderabad.
Brain death is an irreversible state of cerebral dysfunction. A brain-dead organ donor requires focused procedure for organ harvest and extraction. PACE Hospitals is committed to providing the highest quality of care to their patients and have a long history of success in organ transplant procedures. The hospitals continue to strive towards improving medical outcomes and increasing the number of successful transplants.
